Posted British citizens who started working in Germany before 1 January 2021 can receive medically necessary benefits until the end of their stay with the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or Provisional Replacement Certificate (PRC) issued by the competent UK institution. A posting is considered a temporary stay.
- Example: You are a British citizen, insured in the UK and were posted to Germany by your employer from 1 November 2020 to 31 October 2022.
- Result: Until the end of your posting, you can receive medically necessary benefits with the new European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or Provisional Replacement Certificate (PRC) issued by the competent UK institution, which you must apply for from that UK institution.
For postings starting on or after 1 January 2021, it is still possible to receive benefits via the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or Provisional Replacement Certificate (PRC). However, it will no longer be possible to claim benefits in kind for long-term care.
